LastPass: GOOD. LastPass app for Mac: BAD
One-star reviewers of this app are correct. It’s a shambles. Its not exemplary of other efforts by Marvasol. The reviewer named dridobits wonders whether we’re doing it wrong. No, this app is simply broken. I detail the ways below.
Background: I’m a network engineer and password complexity is must. I’ve been a paid lastpass user since it was released many years ago and even run the Enterprise version at work. Here are the problems:
0. Lastpass app for Mac crashes a lot. It often doesn’t show up in the Alt-Tab list of applications which probably means memory leak. It needs attention
1. App Launches in “add a site” mode. Most people want to search for passwords when they launch. Why would it come up with an open website add dialog?
2. Lastpass does not work when offline. Ever need to log into your home router to do diagnostics when Internet connection is down? Make sure you’ve stored that password somewhere else since Lastpass chokes.
I feel embarassed because I’ve looped in many of my co-workers at Apple to start using this software. Unfortunately, 1Password is probably going to remain the dominant password manage in OS X world.
Marvasol: take a week or two and dedicate some time to fixing this app. It’s not OK to expect your paying customers to put up with this half baked effort.
